⭐ Highlights
✅ Seasonal Fresh Seafood
◆ The market offers a variety of seasonal seafood, including tongue sole, ark shell, Japanese cockle, sea bream, and octopus, all sold directly to customers.
◆ The afternoon catch, known as Hiruami, is auctioned at 2:00 PM for wholesalers. Following this, the market’s “Nankai Shōten” fish shop holds a public auction, where general visitors can participate.
✅ Rich Shellfish Harvest
Izumisano Fishing Port is renowned for its abundant shellfish harvest, contributing to approximately 80% of the ark shell and Japanese cockle supply in Osaka Bay.
These shellfish are highly praised for their thick, firm texture and rich flavor, making them a well-known delicacy.
✅ Osaka Bay’s Premium Shellfish Initiative
Since 2023, the Izumisano Fisheries Cooperative has implemented a sustainable program called “Sharing the Treasures of Senshu’s Sea”.
Smaller ark shells are released back into the sea, while only extra-large shells are certified as premium Osaka Bay shellfish.
Season: February to October—during this time, they are available at Aozora Market.
