Izumisano Futon Daiko Festival | Traditional Taiko Float Festival Near Kansai Airport:May 16–17, 2026

The “Futon Daiko” Festival is a traditional celebration rooted in the fishing communities of Izumisano, held to pray for safe voyages and abundant catches.

During the festival, massive taiko floats from the districts of Kasuga-cho, Shinmachi, and Node-cho parade through the streets from the seaside area near Izumisano Station to the Tsubasa-dori Shopping Street. The powerful drum sounds, chants, and lively atmosphere transform the entire town into a vibrant festival scene.

One of the highlights is watching young children in traditional festival costumes ride atop the floats while singing and playing drums. In recent years, a colorful “Gal Mikoshi” women’s portable shrine group has also become part of the celebration.

After sunset, lanterns illuminate the floats, creating a magical nighttime atmosphere unique to Japanese festivals.

The festival is held around the Izumisano Station area, about 10 minutes by train from Kansai International Airport, making it a memorable cultural stop before or after your flight, or while exploring southern Osaka.
