Pillow Festival (Makura Matsuri) at Hine Shrine | May 4–5, 2026

A unique spring tradition you can experience near Kansai International Airport.
The “Makura Matsuri” held at Hine Shrine is a traditional festival praying for a bountiful harvest.

One of its highlights is the “Makura Nobori,” featuring 25 colorful pillows attached to a 5-meter bamboo pole.
Paraded through the community to the rhythm of Gosha Ondo music, it is an impressive and visually striking tradition.

At the main shrine, a sacred mikoshi (portable shrine) procession marks the festival’s peak.
This rare festival, unique to Izumisano, carries wishes for safe childbirth, good relationships, and peaceful sleep.
