Every October, traditional autumn festivals are held throughout Izumisano. Highlights include the dynamic yarimawashi, in which a wheeled danjiri makes a fast, sharp turn; the distinctive movements and traditional yagura-bushi songs of the yagura; and Izumisano’s only katsugi-danjiri, a wheel-less float carried on participants’ shoulders in the Ogi area.

⭐ Highlights

Izumisano’s danjiri and yagura festival floats can be broadly divided into three types according to how they are moved. Children’s danjiri are included in the pulled-danjiri category.

◆ Hiki-danjiri (pulled danjiri): Kamikawaraya, Shimokawaraya, Shimokawaraya Minami, Kaida, Nakasho, Tsuruhara, Tsuruhara Higashi, Shinke, Nagataki Higashi, Nagataki Naka, Nagataki Nishi, Minaminaka Yasumatsu, Kaminogo Kamimura, Kaminogo Nakamura, and Kaminogo Shimomura

Hiki-danjiri are four-wheeled festival floats with wooden wheels and no steering mechanism. A major highlight is the yarimawashi, a thrilling maneuver in which the float is pulled by ropes and rapidly changes direction at a corner while maintaining its momentum.

◆ Kodomo-danjiri (children’s danjiri): Matsubara and Hagurazaki
※The children’s danjiri will be paraded only on Sunday, October 11.

◆ Yagura: Minaminaka Okamoto and Kashii Higashi
Yagura are two-wheeled festival floats. Their mobility allows them to weave from side to side and rock up and down in time with traditional chants. At the rear, drummers walk behind the float while beating the taiko drums.

◆ Katsugi-danjiri (shoulder-carried danjiri): Kami-Ogi, Naka-Ogi, and Shimo-Ogi
※In 2026, the katsugi-danjiri will be paraded only in Kami-Ogi, on Monday, October 12 (public holiday).

Izumisano’s Only Shoulder-Carried Danjiri
Different festival traditions have been passed down in each area of Izumisano. Among them, the katsugi-danjiri paraded during Hibashiri Shrine’s autumn festival in the Ogi area is particularly rare. It has no wheels and is carried directly on the shoulders of local participants.

Its distinctive structure allows the roof to be raised and lowered. The tradition is designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Izumisano City under the name “The Katsugi-Danjiri Ritual of the Ogi Hibashiri Shrine Autumn Festival.”

Izumisano City is accessible by Nankai Railway from Namba and by JR from Tennoji.

The autumn festivals are held in various districts across the city, not only around Izumisano Station. Please plan your journey according to the district you wish to visit.

Traffic restrictions and crowds are expected during the festival. Allow extra travel time and use public transportation.
