At Yawata Shrine (Yawata Jinja), the autumn flowers of Kinmokusei (fragrant osmanthus) are now in full bloom.
Along the approach from the gate facing National Route 26 to the main sanctuary, some twenty trees line both sides, filling the air with their sweet fragrance and painting the shrine grounds in the warm hues of autumn.
Known as a historic and sacred site, Yawata Shrine is said to have originated around 1,800 years ago when Empress Jingū (Jingū Kōgō) established a temporary palace in this area.
The shrine preserves cultural treasures such as the main sanctuary built in the Ikkensha Nagare-zukuri architectural style and stone lanterns from the Muromachi period still remain to this day.
Take a leisurely stroll and experience the serene beauty and living history of this season.
