Shipporyu-ji Temple, located at Inunaki Mountain, is a sacred site of Katsuragi Shugendo, where esteemed monks like En no Gyoja and Kobo Daishi once trained. Every year, on the Sunday in late August, the “Otaki Festival” takes place, featuring a grand waterfall ritual (Taki-gyo) at Gyosha Falls, which is believed to provide spiritual benefits equivalent to 100 days of training.
The event starts at 9:00 AM with the fire ritual (Saito Goma), and participants have the opportunity to experience waterfall purification under the guidance of monks. This cherished summer tradition offers a unique chance to purify the mind and body and seek blessings.
