Experience the summer charm of Inunaki Mountain at the Goldfish Scooping Contest, held in the Nise River. Part of the 30+ year tradition of the Inunaki Mountain Summer Carnival, this event features 1,200 goldfish swimming in the clear waters and around 100 traditional “goldfish lanterns” from Yanai City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, beautifully decorating the venue.
The shallow, gentle river ensures a safe environment for all ages, and special protective nets are used to preserve the ecosystem.
✅ For international visitors: While local participants may take home the goldfish they catch, visitors from overseas are kindly asked to release the goldfish back into the river after enjoying the experience.
No reservation is required, and participation is free of charge. Don’t miss this family-friendly summer tradition, offering a unique way to connect with nature and Japan’s cultural heritage!
