The Aritohoshi Torch Noh is a rare opportunity to witness Noh, a traditional Japanese performing art that has been cherished for over 600 years.
During the Muromachi and Azuchi-Momoyama periods, Noh was patronized by powerful warlords like Ashikaga Yoshimitsu and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. In the Edo period, it was officially designated as shikigaku (ceremonial performance) by the Tokugawa shogunate, becoming a refined art form closely associated with the samurai class.
At Aritohoshi Shrine, a designated Tangible Cultural Property, the torchlit performance creates an enchanting atmosphere, evoking the mystique of the samurai era. The event features the play ” Aritohoshi “, inspired by the shrine’s history.
Come and enjoy this mesmerizing torchlit Noh performance, a tradition passed down through generations!
