Nakami Shrine is known for its unglazed clay bell (dorei) shaped like a Mizu Nasu eggplant, a specialty of Senshu. A dorei is an unglazed clay bell, often used as a good luck charm or protective amulet at shrines. The Mizu Nasu dorei is considered an auspicious item, attracting visitors who come to pray for success in academics, work, and love. The shrine is also popular for its beautiful seasonal flowers, carefully cultivated by the shrine’s priests. From mid-April, the wisteria flowers are in full bloom, and from mid-May to mid-June, the vibrant hydrangeas reach their peak, captivating all who visit.

⭐Highlights

◆From mid to late April, the wisteria flowers are in full bloom ✿.
In honor of the shrine’s sacred crest, the “Fuji Tomoe” (Wisteria Crest), priest Kitaoka carefully cultivates 20 varieties and 40 wisteria plants. The shrine has become a famous wisteria spot, attracting visitors from afar. Highlights include the delicate “wisteria trellis” and other points of interest.

◆ From mid-May to mid-June, the hydrangeas are in full bloom ✿
During the rainy season in June, the delicate hydrangeas come into full bloom, delighting the eyes of visitors. The beautifully tended hydrangeas, in a variety of colors and shapes, are planted in the ground or in pots. You might even catch a glimpse of the photogenic hydrangea flower water basin floating on the water.

◆ Hydrangea Flower Amulet ✿
Pruned hydrangea flowers are dried and turned into amulets, with prayers for women’s health and the removal of misfortune. The “Hydrangea Flower Amulet” (initial offering fee: 2,000 yen) is believed to ward off evil and protect from women’s illnesses. Many people hang it in their entrance or bathroom, making it a cute and meaningful item for home decor.
