Two Days of Summer Celebrations Honoring Tradition and Community

The Sanohama Yoncho Summer Festival is a deeply rooted local celebration that lights up the summer in Izumisano. This event features the Sano Kudoki Bon Odori performance, a traditional folk dance designated as an intangible cultural asset by the city.

Four local districts—Shimmachi, Kasugacho, Nodecho, and Motomachi—come together, with local youth groups and residents planning and running the festival entirely on a volunteer basis. This warm spirit of community draws many visitors from both near and far every year.

The festival venue is lined with food stalls carefully prepared by the youth of each district, creating a nostalgic and lively atmosphere. You can also enjoy fresh, local specialties from the shops of the Izumisano Gyokyo Aozora Ichiba fish market.
Please note that all stalls use a ticket system—tickets must be purchased in advance at the ticket booth before ordering food or games (cash is not accepted at the stalls).

🎆 The highlight of the festival is the fireworks display on August 16, with around 350 fireworks launched from the Izumisano fishing port. While the number may be modest, these heartfelt fireworks—made possible by the generous support of local fishermen—shine brightly as a symbol of community pride and unity. Each year, the display is held with great care to avoid disturbing nearby residents, serving as a glowing symbol of community spirit and love for the region.

Come and experience the warmth of Izumisano’s local spirit this summer!
