Makura Festival at Hine Shrine – May 4–5, 2025

See it, Feel it, and Make a Wish — The Makura Festival
A vibrant spring celebration where handcrafted “makura” (decorative pillows) dance in the breeze.
Every May, the Makura Festival takes place at Hine Shrine in Izumisano City, Osaka — a slightly mysterious yet deeply heartwarming festival.
Long bamboo poles about 5 meters tall are decorated with 25 handmade “decorative pillows” and carried through the streets to the rhythm of the Gosha Ondo, a traditional folk chant unique to the Izumisano region. It’s a vibrant, uplifting sight that fills the town with color and joy.
Each pillow carries a heartfelt wish—for peaceful sleep, a happy marriage, or a safe delivery. timeless hopes that still resonate today. The festival offers a moment of peace, as if gently comforting your heart.
🌿 “I haven’t been sleeping well lately…”
🌿 “I wish to meet someone special…”
🌿 “I need a moment to calm my mind…”
If any of these sound like you, this may be the perfect experience.
