Otaki Festival – Takigyo (Waterfall Meditation) & Great Fire Ritual: Experience the Mystical Spirit of Summer! (August 31)

At Shipporyu-ji Temple (Inunakisan Shipporyu-ji), a sacred site in Izumisano City, Osaka, the traditional Otaki Festival is held every summer.
Witness Takigyo (waterfall meditation), where Shugendo practitioners (traditional Japanese mountain ascetics) stand under the cold cascade to purify body and mind, and the dynamic Saito Ogoma-ku (grand fire ritual), in which sacred flames are used to cut off misfortunes and pray for blessings.
Visitors can also join the Takigyo experience under the guidance of the temple’s practitioners.
