Now on display at Kansai International Airport Island through Monday, November 3, 2025 (Holiday)!
Discover a heartwarming exhibition of etegami (hand-painted postcards) created using towel brushes, a unique art tool born from repurposed Senshu Towel, a traditional industry originating in Izumisano.
With the support of Yasuhiko Miyawaki, the inventor of the towel brush, and the Izumisano City Board of Education, this special display brings together imaginative works full of charm and creativity at the Hotel Nikko Kansai Airport.
The venue is a gallery space along the hallway on the second floor of the Hotel Nikko Kansai Airport, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

• 5 award-winning works (Grand Prize & Excellence Awards) from the 15th National Towel Brush Etegami Competition

Join us for a special summer workshop featuring an introduction by Miyawaki-san on the background, creation, and usage of towel brushes. Afterwards, participants can try their hand at a free-style painting—perfect for a summer holiday art project!

🖌️ About the Inventor of the Towel Brush – Yasuhiko Miyawaki
Miyawaki-san created the towel brush using well-worn Senshu Towel, a local specialty of Izumisano. His work in inventing the tool and fostering a new cultural art form, “Towel Brush Etegami,” has contributed significantly to the cultural development of the city. In recognition of his efforts, he was honored as a “Living Local Treasure of Izumisano City” in 2025.
