Kawasemi – Japanese Eel & Dining (Domestic Unagi)
Expertly Grilled from Skewer to Flame — A Cozy Family-Run Unagi Restaurant
With over 10 years of experience honing her skills at a traditional eel restaurant,
the owner (a skilled female chef) opened this cozy family-run eel restaurant 15 years ago, together with her husband and sister.
Each eel is expertly prepared in-house, from careful skewering to attentive grilling, using only premium domestic Japanese eel. After being gently steamed to achieve a tender texture, the eel is brushed multiple times with a rich, house-made sauce crafted from a treasured family recipe, enhancing its deep umami flavor and aromatic finish.
The menu features seven types of eel dishes, including the classics—kabayaki (sauce-grilled), shirayaki (grilled without sauce), hitsumabushi, and unajū (grilled eel over rice in a box).
On each table, you’ll find freshly dried sanshō peppercorns, which you can grind yourself to enhance the dish’s flavor with its signature fragrance.
In addition to eel, the restaurant also offers a wide range of noodles such as udon, soba, and ramen, as well as rice bowls, à la carte dishes, and izakaya-style menu items.
Whether you’re here for a meal or to enjoy a drink, this welcoming spot caters to every occasion.
