The 5th Moonlit Bamboo Lantern Festival (Kangetsu-sai) at Myokoji Temple: October 24–25, 2026
The enchanting Moonlit Bamboo Lantern Festival (Kangetsu-sai) returns to Myokoji Temple this autumn.
Located approximately an eight-minute walk from Nankai Izumisano Station, the temple grounds will be illuminated by around 1,000 taketōrō bamboo lanterns.
Each lantern is carefully handcrafted from bamboo harvested by local residents at Izumisano Kyuryo Ryokuchi Park. Their soft glow gently lights up the autumn night.
This magical evening is sure to become a special memory of your visit to Izumisano.
Two Distinct Ways to Enjoy Kangetsu-sai
🎶 October 24 (Sat.) | Bamboo Lanterns, Live Performances and Food
• A Sōran dance and wind ensemble performance by Shinike Junior High School
• Traditional Japanese dance, known as nihon buyō, performed by Kasenkai
• A live performance by the Okinawan-inspired party band Wauke Band
• An acoustic performance by singer-songwriter Sae Banjoya
• Food and refreshments from food trucks (charges apply), and more
🌙 October 25 (Sun.) | An Enchanting Evening of Bamboo Lanterns and DJ Music
• Music presented by a DJ inside the temple’s main hall
• An enchanting fusion of bamboo lantern light and music in the serene and reverent surroundings of Myokoji Temple
Please note that live performances and food trucks will be available on Saturday, October 24 only.
