Otaki Festival 2026 – Takigyo & Saito Goma Fire Ritual ｜August 30, 2026

Every summer, Shipporyuji Temple in Inunakisan hosts the Otaki Festival & Waterfall Meditation Ritual, one of the area’s most distinctive traditional events.

After the ceremonial fire is lit during the Saito Goma fire ritual, visitors can experience Takigyo (waterfall ascetic training) under the guidance of experienced practitioners.

Surrounded by the lush forests of Inunakisan, this event offers a rare opportunity to experience an important part of Japanese culture in a natural setting. It is also a memorable activity for travelers staying near Kansai International Airport before or after their flight.

⏰ Schedule：
9:30 AM – Procession departs from the Main Hall
The Saito Goma fire ritual is performed at the waterfall site. After the ceremonial fire is lit, the public Takigyo experience begins.
Scheduled to end at approximately 11:30 AM

💰 Participation Fee：Takigyo Experience: ¥3,000 (rental of traditional training attire included)

⚠️ Notes：
No advance reservation is required.
Registration opens at 9:00 AM on the event day.
During the temple’s regular One-Day Training Program, Takigyo cannot be booked as a standalone experience.
